Carved Concrete

Carved concrete takes a material known for strength and permanence and reveals its potential for delicacy and craft. The process begins with artisans hand-carving intricate patterns into a wooden mold, often inspired by geometric repetition. Liquid concrete is poured into the mold, capturing every subtle detail as it sets. Once released, the surface retains the memory of the carved design, transforming concrete into a medium of texture and light. Nada Debs introduced this unexpected approach as part of her continued exploration of material storytelling. By treating concrete as a surface for craftsmanship rather than construction, she redefined how we perceive both craft and material, offering a new narrative where geometry, tactility, and humanity converge.
